This circular walk follows paths and roads initially in a southerly direction to pass through Croftamie and return along the West Highland Way.
The ﬁve mile walk starts from the Stirling Road Car Park in Drymen off the B858. It turns left and left again at the Spar Shop on the square to pass by the Pottery and the Post Office. Take the path signed, “Viewpoint”, which climbs up through a well kept garden and at the top provides a lovely view of the Lomond Hills. Returning to the B858. the walk turns right and opposite the sign, “Path to Home Farm”, it takes the narrow path on the right uphill at the side of the house and at the top drops down onto a newly surfaced path. it enters the Lomondside Stud and Equestrian Centre and immediately turns left, to leave the Centre on a rough path before joining the main driveway in Buchanan Castle Estate. Here, the walk can either, turn left along the driveway to the main exit and turn right onto the A811, or for a more scenic route crosses the driveway to enter the “show” ﬁeld through a gate before veering left onto the tractor track and exit the ﬁeld at the side of the Drymen Bridge and River Endrick. Continue ahead onto the A809 and soon these is another option for the walk. You can continue along the pavement passing Croﬁamie Nursery and Endrick Way on the right and turn left at the bus stop to join the John Muir Way and Cycle Track 7 or ideally, turn right from the pavement at the sign, “Public Path, Pirnie Hall” and enter through a gate into a ﬁeld to pass by Pirnie Hall, a former residential school, and onto the John Muir Way. The option to continue along the pavement is suggested as the ﬁeld and path are oﬂen very muddy to cross although there are now gates, fenced paths and signs which direct the path to the exit at the side of a house. Turning left here, the walk joins the John Muir Way and Cycle Track 1 on a minor road and then enters on the left the former railway track which crosses the A811 to rejoin the other route. Continuing on the former, railway track, the walkpasses the Scottish Stone Landscaping Yard on the left and onto the metal bridge over the River Endrick, an interesting place to pause and admire the surrounding landscape and the bridge structure which at one time supported the crossing trains. It passes by farmland on either side and turns left on reaching the tarmac surface of the West Highland Way. There are some hilly sections on this stretch of the WHW as it passes Easter Drumquhassle with its wooden wigwams and low cost accommodation for walkers and the sand quarry on the left where there is the ﬁrst glimpse of the lower part of Loch Lomond. After the horse riding centre, the walk rounds a left hand bend, ignores the cut off for the WHW on the right and continues on the tarmac road to pass some attractive houses. It crosses the busy A811 Stirling Road to return to the car park in Drymen.
