![]() Shivling ( 6543m ) Shivling
is in the Gangotri Group 
      in the western Garhwal Himalaya. It is in the state of Uttarakhand some 6km (4 miles ) south of the Hindu holy site of Gaumukh - the source of the Bhagirathi River. Its name refers to its status as a sacred symbol of the Hindu god Shiva. It is known as " Matterhorn Peak " by Europeans due to its similarity with the Swiss peak. It is a dramatic peak and a coveted prize for mountaineers.  |
